Fic: Doctor Who and the Temple of Chrysogonax, or; The Quatermain Xpedition

Part the Third:

www.whofic.com/viewstory.php

Without going overboard, I can't say what a relief it is to actually write a proper bit of fic after my barren couple of weeks; I sat down with a couple of beers and my iPod and it just came pouring out. Thank the Lordy... Now, as to how good it actually is, I leave that up to you.

Thanks also to[info]lost_spook and [info]akashasheiress for their vital input on a crucially important point; you know the bit I'm talking about. :)

I loved it!

I'm off to check that Story C works and I should be able to post it today. (After which point, I shall stop being coy and mysterious).

And as for doing fashion design for Romana, that was a nice start to a Saturday. :-D

Thanks! I will see about getting another part up soonish, but they're quite long chapters and take a bit of time to write, so there may be a delay (not another month, hopefully!)

Looking forward to Story C...

And if you think of any more good Romana costumes, I'd be more than happy to steal, er, that is, use them. :)

Only if I'm not too busy coming up with impossible ideas for fic that I then have to go and write. :-)

(However, if you give me a prompt again... Heh.)

Great stuff, as usual. Loved the musical numbers and the Doctor and Romana's reactions to it.

As always, wonderful flirting and bantering, especially that dirty little joke.:D What do you mean unresolved sexual tension?

Oh, I don't know; it's just Four bantering away as usual! XD

Thanks, btw for the kind words! I wouldn't finish any of these things without a bit of encouragement along the way.

Quite amusing, quite, quite! I'm especially fond of K-9's diagnosis of Four and Romana's USTs, and Four giving his lovely little meta-commentary: "why yes, it is a bit silly, but it sets out what it means to do"

Oh, and the bit about the band of kids -- was kid really in use in Europe at that time, or was that just brilliant hand-waving (in any case I'm impressed at your ability to rhyme pyramids)

I honestly don't know; I'm continually amazed by what I think of as "modern" turns of phrase cropping up in things like Sherlock Holmes stories, but in this case, as the Doctor observes, it is a bit difficult to rhyme anything with "pyramids", isn't it? It is for me, anyway.

I hope Four and Romana's Statler-and-Waldorf routine and things like the "sting!" aren't too clever-clever for their own good, butting up against the fourth wall as they do. At the time I was prevaricating about writing this, I was watching a lot of Season 17 stories and reading reviews of them online, and was struck by how, well, mean a lot of people still are about things like Creature from the Pit and Horns of Nimon. Sure, they're silly, but they're also hugely entertaining, and even make one or two serious points along the way, and have Four and Romana in them being all adorable and stuff...

So, yeah, I've decided that this is sort of my tribute to those stories and why I love them; hope to continue it soonish.

Well, in spite of it's silliness and bad monsters ''Nimon'' is actually a pretty good story with a solid plot and it has Romana being completely brilliant and sexy. Um, that's my opinion, anyway.

Date: 2009-03-29 02:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com
Well, yeah, the Nimon are actually fairly decent baddies with A Plan, and they go about it in a pleasingly underhanded way. Them looking cheap/daft is not, in my opinion, a legitimate criticism since they probably made the story on about £2.50 (and that all went on Tommy B's drinks!)XD

And, as you point out, the main thing the story has is Romana being, as the fanvid on YouTube reminds us, Awesome. Especially that bit where she's going mental at the spaceship pilot: "You despicable worm!! Turn back - NOW!!!" And she does that angry-Romana face as she's shouting at him. Excellent. :)

It's sort of Romana's ''graduation'' story: She does most of the planet rescuing and basically takes over the Doctor's role for a story. The Doctor tried to take credit afterwards and she had to hit him with a riding crop or something.

Or something...

Yes, it is the classic example of Romana getting on with fixing the spaceship/saving everybody/getting chased by monsters while the Doctor takes some time to do the important stuff - namely larking around and annoying the baddies. As he says in Nightmare of Eden, "Do what you're good at, that's what I always say."

That was...well...remarkable, I suppose, and goes to prove my point about well-written smut (ie. that whether smut's your thing or not, it does sometimes have its merits). The incidental bits of dialogue were so in character that it makes you wonder about the rest of it O.o And it even had K-9 being passive-aggressive with the Doctor, which is something I always appreciate.

Four would be all evasive and never get to the point and Romana would be frank and explicit.:D

I... don't know who Irongron and Bloodaxe are.D:

Yes, it does seem very true to life! XD

Bloodaxe and Irongron are two thick medieval guys from The Time Warrior, and, to my way of thinking, the least likely pairing for anyone to write slash about! XD

Ah yes, I've only seen The Time Warrior once, a while ago. See, the kinkmeme is also about lulz.;)

''Hello there! You know those times when you're in the middle of something fun and impediments show up and you have to get said impediments out of the way before the fun can continue?''

''Er...''

''This is one of those times!''

''Right. What can I do for you, sir?''

''I'll tell you what you can do for me! It's... well...it's...You know I don't usually need this''

*patient look from cashier*

''Weeeell... what I need is...is... *deep breath* co...lgate''

''There you are, sir''

''Excellent. And then there's the matter of *tugs at scarf* con...con...tact lenses''

''We don't sell those here, sir''

''No? What a shame. Er, then how about... coooo...la?''

''*sigh* Coke or Pepsi*''

*Romana pushes the Doctor aside*

''Three pacs of Durex, ribbed.''

After:

''Thank Rassilon you only ovulate every few decade''

''I was going to ask for Trojans but, you know, their barriers burst.''
