Extending all my best wishes and good vibes to [personal profile] thisbluespirit - I hope you are having a good day, and that things are going your way generally. <3
jjpor: (Fezzes are cool!)
Twenty years??  TWENTY years???

But seriously... Twenty YEARS???!!
jjpor: (One)
Well, hopefully the Great Pumpkin (assuming I'm not wildly mixing up festive occasions) will bring us all what we want tomorrow. Me, I want Moffat being like egregiously Moffat-y, but I suspect in the event he will tone it down a bit for crimbo.

I haven't watched The War Games in Colour yet, not for any particular reason. I may check it out in conjunction with the special tomorrow. That sounds like a plan, in fact.

EDIT: I meant to say, I am going to watch the no doubt very Gatiss-y A Ghost Story for Christmas on BBC Two tonight. That's become a bit of a Christmas Eve tradition for me over the last couple of years, even if they always go for exactly the same "twist" ending every time. :D Knowing the story this year's is based on quite well, I can already imagine exactly how the ending is going to be handled. Who knows, though, maybe I'll be wrong!

EDIT 2: I was wrong! A surprisingly restrained affair compared to past years. Very good, though.

Apart from that, I just want to extend the best wishes of the season to anyone who might be reading this, however you may or may not be celebrating. The world isn't a great place at the moment in lots of ways, it is fair to say, but I think you need to take whatever comfort and joy you can possibly get. All the best. <3
jjpor: (Seven'n'Ace)
...to those who celebrate. 61 is the new 50, or something. Not sure how others are marking the occasion (there was a time when I would have had my finger on that pulse, but alas), but I've just watched the live watch-along of Boom from the most recent series on the official Doctor Who YouTube channel. It's still a very good episode, imho - extremely Moffat-y if you like that kind of thing (I do!). The Xmas special looks like it might be good too, in the same sorts of ways.

Realising now that I never posted anything about Boom or the remainder of Season 1 (if we're calling it that) because I did my thing again of just disappearing without trace for a while and then popping up back here at vaguely Doctor Who-related moments. I keep saying I'm going to not do that again, but I keep doing it, don't I? And the general state of the world hasn't really got any better in the meantime, has it?

Doctor Who-wise, I've mostly been continuing to work my way slowly through what's on the BBC iPlayer, including the various more-recently animated stories from the 60s, not all of which I've seen before in these particular forms. I hear they're going to do a Daleks in Colour-style edit of The War Games now, which strikes me as...a courageous decision, given how long the original version is. Not exactly something I'm looking forward to, to be honest, but then I was pretty curmudgeonly about The Daleks in Colour - I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it and have the general feeling that anything that might get the young'uns watching oldschool Who is probably a good thing.

Regarding the remainder of "Season 1," after a fair bit of teasing and misdirection, the Sutekh thing and the finale in general was...extremely RTD-y if you like that kind of thing. I think I've said enough. XD

Wishing many happy returns to [personal profile] thisbluespirit - I hope you have had/are having a good day. <3

2024 is 55 minutes in and nothing bad has happened yet. This could be the one...!

More seriously, best wishes to anybody reading this and I hope you all have the best year you can possibly have. :)
jjpor: (One)
Just to say - I hope wherever you are, whatever your circumstances and whatever holidays you do or do not celebrate, that you get a bit of rest and relaxation at the tail end of what has been yet another year and a half. Have a good one. Watch Doctor Who, any Doctor Who, but only if you want to. :D
jjpor: (One)
Well, however you have chosen or been obliged to spend it, I hope you have had a good Who Day. And if you're giving thanks on the other side of the pond...well, 60 years of Doctor Who is something to be thankful for, I suppose. :D

I'm just about to watch the new colourised version of The Daleks on BBC4, and then An Adventure in Space and Time I suppose afterwards. It barely seems like yesterday since the 50th, to be honest.

Anyway, have a good one...!

I’m not sure whether anyone is going to see this or want to respond to it, but hey, I’m still extant as they say.

I'm a day late and a dollar short as they say, but here's wishing thisbluespirit a belated happy birthday - I hope you had a good one. :)

I realise I've not been very active at all, either here or in Doctor Who fandom generally, for the past...well, longer than I care to recall, to be honest.  We can discuss my feelings on the Chibnall Era (which is what I choose to call it because, no, I don't like it much, but it isn't anything to do with Jodie Whittaker or the Thirteenth Doctor) some other time.  There are more important things going on at the moment.

This is, I think it is fair to say, a pretty strange, scary time for pretty much the entire world and everybody in it.  I'd wager those of us who indulged in dystopian fantasies about what might happen if X or Y won a particular election, or if a particular referendum mandate was indeed seen through to its bitter end, didn't quite expect anything like this to happen.  Myself, I'm managing to get by both work-wise and personally, and keep myself and those I care about as healthy and safe as I can.  However, I realise that depending on your personal circumstances that could be a lot easier said than done.

So, I don't know, I just thought I'd post something here and just ask how people are doing, and offer my good vibes and best wishes to all of you.  It's been a while, but I hope all of you are keeping as well as can be in the circumstances, and if you'd like to offer your greetings (from a safe social distance, of course), I'd be very glad to hear from you.

Jon Pertwee would have been 100 years old today, and I think this video of his son Sean reminiscing is Lovely:

That is all :)

Well, it's that time of the year again.  No Who Xmas Special this year (only a week to wait, though - here's hoping it's a good'un), but I'm sure that won't stop anybody who wants to make merry on the morrow from doing so.  I know it can also be a difficult time of year for many people, so best wishes and greetings of the season to all of you whether you're celebrating or not, whatever you may or may not be celebrating.

[community profile] who_allsorts is a prompt table community open to all types of fanworks and all corners of the Doctor Who Universe. It's an old school style prompt claiming community, with bite-sized tables (varying from 3-20 prompts) and a more flexible approach to what can be claimed (characters, pairings, eras, themes, spin-offs etc.). Come on over, claim up to two tables at one time, and create new fanworks for Doctor Who - and everyone profits!

Further information can be found at the comm. Click on the banner for link. "

Well, go on, then!

Once again I might just have managed to make my posting deadline in *some* time zones. I’ve actually been trying to write this fic, or something like it, for a few years now, so I’m glad the ‘thon gave me the opportunity finally to get it off my chest. Warning for salty language and 1960s period racism, misogyny, homophobia etc. No historical characters were harmed in the making of this fic. Doctor Who and its various characters and copyrights most definitely do not belong to me.

I have many a fond memory of the old fic_rush comm on Livejournal, so it's good to see it being revived here on Dreamwidth. The first round of the new era is this weekend, 17th-18th of March, so why not give it a whirl?

Penguins, glowsticks and usurpation usually end up featuring in the proceedings, if I remember correctly.
